Yes, MIBE offers weekend ballet training through our Enhancement Course, which has been running since 2012. This course is designed specifically for students aged seven and above who show potential in classical ballet and want to deepen their training alongside their regular dance school classes. The classes take place on Saturdays during term time at Burnley College, utilising a professional performance space equipped with a sprung Harlequin floor, ideal for ballet practice.
The Enhancement Course
The Enhancement Course provides a well-rounded curriculum that goes beyond just technique. Students study classical ballet technique alongside repertoire, character dance, drama, and choreography. The programme places strong emphasis on posture, alignment, turnout, and body mechanics, helping dancers build a solid technical foundation. It also includes specialised body conditioning exercises tailored to improve strength and flexibility, which are crucial for any serious ballet dancer.
Beyond the physical and technical work, the course encourages artistic growth and performance skills, helping students develop confidence and stage presence. The environment is supportive and collaborative, bringing together like-minded dancers from various schools. This allows students to share experiences, motivate each other, and build lasting connections.
Classes are structured into age-appropriate groups to suit the developmental needs of students, ranging from younger juniors to older teens. The programme is designed to nurture students’ natural abilities while progressively preparing them for more advanced levels of ballet training.
Entry to the Enhancement Course is by audition, held in the spring term before the autumn term starts, ensuring that participants are dedicated and motivated. For those enrolled, there are additional opportunities to further enrich their training, including an optional weekly evening class and chances to join our Enrichment Courses or audition for the Embrace Ballet Company.
In summary, the Enhancement Course offers comprehensive weekend ballet training in Lancashire, combining technical excellence, artistic development, and a supportive community to inspire and challenge young dancers on their ballet journey.
