Beyond the barre: Burnley's Newest Base for ballerinas

We’re really pleased to be featured in the latest edition of Burnley Lifestyle Magazine. The article, “Beyond the Barre: Burnley’s Newest Base for Ballerinas,” takes a look at how Mentors in Ballet Education began, our move to Burnley and the journey that led us from professional ballet careers to creating a home for young dancers in Burnley.

The article talks about everything from our early days performing and teaching to how we balance family life with running a ballet school. We also discussed the exciting plans we have for the future, including the launch of our Youth Ballet Company.

“With this being our own space and not tied to anyone, we are freer with our ideas. We’re about to launch a Youth Ballet Company, for example, and being in Burnley means we can attract from even further afield in the north, including from places like Leeds. There are no other young ballet companies in the northwest, so it will be a huge achievement for us, as well as the community of Burnley.”

How quickly time goes by and aspirations will turn into achievements. It is undeniable that incredible amounts of effort and hard work go into developing and succeeding as a dancer, but it is the wonderful opportunities and friendships that will hopefully become the overall experience of a students journey. There are many highs, but also lows and both can aid in forming lasting bonds between those in search of a common goal. We look forward to welcoming students from our programmes to celebrate achievements and acknowledge key moments that hard work and determination have attained. 2025 has certainly brought great change, but the fundamental continued caring development and success of our students remains ever strong and true.🩰

You don’t really need to give us an excuse to celebrate and rave about all the joy ballet brings to our lives.
Whether it’s all the hard work and dedication behind the scenes, or the wonderful performances, we stand united with all who join and celebrate ballet particularly on this day.
We always enjoy our Wednesdays, with creativity, multiple ballet classes and teacher training, but today we reflect with that extra focus on appreciating just what Ballet means to us all.
Thank you to all the dancers in training, teachers, choreographers, Directors, families and all who help to keep Ballet so accessible and valuable to those who in return receive so much reward.

What a brilliant day for the future of dance, as these talented young men came together to inspire and share a part of their journey in dance with each other.

A huge thank you to @orlandoballet artist, @ficki500 for joining us online from USA and answering some very challenging and interesting questions from the boys.

Joshua’s great advice to the boys was, “enjoy what you love doing and work hard to achieve your dreams.”

All the boys worked extremely hard today and from strength exercises, creativity to Le Corsaire, a great day was had by all. There will be more boys days of dance ahead and if you want to register interest, please email skidd@balleteducation.co.uk

🌿Wellbeing Wednesdays🪺

We love our music and Cecchetti Syllabus lessons on Wednesday and in our Drama class today we took an expedition through nature in search of inspiration and stimulus. Our stroll took us around @towneleyhall and amongst the changing seasonal colours we found all manner of things to inspire our creativity.🎭

🎉Boys Day of Dance!🎉

📆Sunday 26th October 2025

⏰10:00 - 15:00

MIBE Director Simon Kidd will be hosting a day of dance for young aspiring male identifying dancers.

“Dance has enriched my life so greatly and I hope to offer as many boys as possible the opportunity to see how much happiness can be found through movement and music.”

The day will be held at @balleteducation Headquarters and cost £25. Included will be strength and conditioning work, some structured ballet class work, some repertoire work and creative choreography session.

The day is designed for boys aged between 9 and 14 years and all are welcome whether you are new to dancing or not. For any further details and to apply, please email Simon Kidd at skidd@balleteducation.co.uk
